Learning Objective

After reading a fictional passage, students will identify character traits for a given character.

Description

Keep your student engaged as they learn to analyze characters and identify character traits with this set of four worksheets and craftivity! Students will read fifteen short passages and determine a character trait for the main character in each short story. The finished products make a unique bulletin board or fun school hallway display!

  • Worksheets- Students begin by completing a set of FOUR worksheets! A word bank filled with character trait terms is provided at the top of the first page. Students read each of the fifteen passages and determine which character trait word best describes the main character of the passage. Answer keys are included.

If you want, you can stop right there! Or, you may choose to move on and have your students use their worksheet answers to assemble the follow-up activity!

  • Craftivity: Students are instructed to label a frame with the name of one of the characters on the worksheets and his or her character trait. Then, students draw an appropriate face to match the character trait. For example, if the character's trait is "stubborn", students should NOT draw a happy face! Finally, students color and cut out their frames and glue them to a sheet of construction paper. Student-friendly directions are included so that you can place the directions under your document camera, and students can refer to them as they complete the project.

********This resource is available in three formats:

  1. Traditional Printables- Print the PDF and distribute the pencil-and-paper activity for students to complete, color, cut out, and assemble!
  2. Easel Activity- With this digital format, students are presented with a colorful picture frame and a reading passage on each slide. Students read the passage and complete the sentence at the bottom of the slide by typing in a character trait word from the word bank.
  3. Google Slides Activity- This is set up just like the Easel Activity described above.
