Description

The movie Sing provides the perfect text for character analysis. Each character experiences their own journey of self-discovery and self-actualization.

In this task, students will examine three characters in depth:

  • Rosita, the pig, a housewife, who dreams of singing and of being appreciated and seen by her family.
  • Johnny, the gorilla, the son of mobster, who does want to follow in his father's footsteps into a life of crime, and wants to be loved and accepted as a singer.
  • Ash, the porcupine, the rebel rocker caught between her dream of writing music and her negative self-obsessed boyfriend.

For each character, there are:

  • Four embedded YouTube video clips from the film.
  • Four corresponding Google Slides with character analysis questions that connect to the film clips.

Culminating Task:

After analyzing the three characters from Sing, students will choose a different character from a book or short story of their choice/your choice to connect to a song.

They will analyze the character's development and personal journey by relating it to the lyrics of their chosen song.
