Description

Need a quick writing activity that works with any fiction text? I love to do lit circles, but it's often challenging to craft rigorous activities that suit every text. This Character Eulogy is the perfect any-text writing activity that blends real- world writing with fiction texts! Students demonstrate their ability to write with a specific tone AND dig into the text to find evidence that will help them craft a masterful somber (or silly) eulogy for a character from their novel!

Here’s what you get:

  • A two sided task sheet with directions, brainstorming, and writing space
  • One page of sentence frames to support scaffolding ( and directions for easy further scaffolding)
  • Two different rubrics: one that includes a presentation and one that doesn’t
  • Directions for prep and implementation, with scaffolding and extensions!

This activity is PERFECT for a lit circle or choice novel unit, or if you need an easy to implement writing activity throughout a novel study. I keep this in my back pocket for halloween, unexpected sub days, or when I need to do a comprehension check with students.

If you love this activity, you might also be interested in my other novel study resources!
