What educators are saying
Description
If your students are ready for chapter books, then they may need help with comprehension. This chapter book study pack works for any book. The students can engage in book clubs or work through this independently.
Included are lots of pages that you can sift through as you help your readers get through their first chapter book. When I taught this cycle of book clubs, I made all of these available for students to use, but I didn’t pass them all out as that might be overwhelming. I saved some of them for my higher readers and some for my struggling readers.
I was very clear with my students about one thing: I would be providing them with worksheets to help organize their thinking, BUT they could easily do the same work in their own reading lives in a notebook. These are just tools to help them get used to reading and then writing about their reading. I hope that when they read books a month from now, they won’t necessarily need to get the character sketch sheet because they’ve used it enough to know how to create their version in a reader’s notebook. Isn’t that what we do as real readers?
