What educators are saying
Description
This interactive and hands-on card sort activity will allow your students to see how the atoms in matter change as they change states due to the amount of heat given to that matter. This is a great way to teach, practice and asses this tricky concept in a kinesthetic way! Use this for your upper elementary or middle school science class.
Start by asking students the question:
How can the states of matter can be changed from one form to another? [ex. " What happens to solid ice when heat is added?"]
Students then determine what adding and losing heat does to the atoms in water in all of its forms (frozen, liquid and gas). [ex. "adding heat masks the molecules move around more and the new state is a liquid"]
To finish, students sort examples of each new state. [ex. "melting"]
Also included: A fill in the blank using a word bank review sheet for early finishers or extra practice!
Be sure to check out the preview to see how this engaging activity works.
NOW DIGITAL for Distance Learning- set up as a google slide show where students can drag and drop the the different parts of the sort! The review sheet is also on the google slide.
A great way to encourage SUPER SCIENCING!
