What educators are saying

This was a perfect resource for my class as with my split class, it allowed them some independence while I worked with the other student. Very cohesive and great worksheets! Thanks!
My students loved this resource for Social Studies. It is extremely accessible, even for students that struggled with reading, and offered a lot of opportunity for student opinion and thought. Highly recommend.

Description

This workbook covers the Grade 2 Changing Family and Community Traditions unit in the NEW 2023 Ontario Social Studies curriculum (Heritage and Identity).

In this engaging workbook, students will discover the world's diverse cultures and traditions. They will explore their own ancestors/heritage, learn about family structures, and compare different families. They will learn about different traditions and celebrations in Canada, including learning about the impact that colonization, including the residential school system, had and continues to have on First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people and their traditions and celebrations. There is a variety of readings, long and short answer questions, creative writing activities, and drawing prompts included to create a varied workbook suitable for many learning styles.

There are a number of readings and worksheets included for multi-faith and multicultural holidays that may be observed by students in your classroom. These readings are intended to be read as shared or guided readings (written at a level slightly higher than what students can read on their own). A page is included that indicates what date these holidays are usually observed, which you can print and hang by your desk to remember to use these readings throughout the year as the holidays come up.

The significant faith and cultural days included are Lunar New Year, Holi, Easter, Passover, Nowruz, Songkran, National Indigenous Peoples Day, Orange Shirt Day, Yom Kippur, Diwali, Day of the Dead, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Ramadan.

To support assessment practices, Ontario curriculum expectations are clearly identified on each page. A quiz is included at the end of the workbook.
