    This bundle includes three slideshows and three guided note packets from my Indigenous Pottery of the Americas, Ceramics of Asia, and Ceramics of Africa Art history units. Together these units can take threes week to one month to get through depending on how you choose to pace the lessons.

    All resources will be downloaded as a .zip file. PDF files are included in the .zip download.


    The Indigenous Pottery of the Americas:

    This lesson includes a slideshow that covers indigenous pottery from North, Central, and South America. There is a guided note packet included that students can use to follow along. This lesson can take multiple class periods depending on discussion with students.

    Topics covered in this lesson include:

    • North American Indigenous Pottery: Pueblo, Hohokom, Anasazi, Hopi-Tewa, and Nampeyo
    • Mesoamerican Indigenous Pottery: The Mayans, Aztecs, and Colima
    • South American Indigenous Pottery: The Moche, Nazca, and Inca

    The Ceramics of Asia:

    This lesson includes a slideshow that covers indigenous pottery from China, Japan, and Korea. There is a guided note packet included that students can use to follow along. This lesson can take multiple class periods depending on discussion with students.

    Topics covered in this lesson include:

    • China: The Yangshao, Longshan, Shang Dynasty, Northern Qi Dynasty, Tang Dynasty, Sui Dynasty, Song Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty, and Qing Dynasty
    • Japan: Jomon Period, Yayoi Period, Kofun and Haniwa figures, Sue ware, Heian Period, Yakishime ware, Momoyama Period, raku ware, Edo Period, Imari ware, and Nabeshima ware
    • Korea: The Three Kingdoms Period, Unified Silla Period, Goryeo Dynasty, and Joseon Dynasty

    The Ceramics of Africa:

    This lesson includes a slideshow that covers pottery from Egypt, Nigeria, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Benin, Mali, South Africa, and more! This slideshow also includes six contemporary ceramics artists from Africa. There is a guided note packet included that students can use to follow along. This lesson can take multiple class periods depending on discussion with students.

    Topics covered in this lesson include:

    • Egypt, The Nok, Yoruba, Edo, Mangbetu, Asante, Ewe, Bamana, Igbo, and Lobi peoples
    • Contemporary ceramic artists Ladi Kwali, Zizipho Poswa, Andile Dyalvane, Magdalene Odundo, Clive Sithole, and Ranti Bam
