Description

This DBQ has students looking at the authority of the Catholic Church during the medieval period in Europe and the influence it had on all levels of society and government through 5 primary or secondary source documents. The sources include a letter from Charlemagne, King of France, the 1095 Decree by Pope Urban II, and more. Each document is followed by a constructed response question and a summary essay question using the documents wraps up the DBQ.

This DBQ:

  • addresses the Common Core Standards
  • follows New York State social studies testing required format
  • is useful as homework, test review or substitute teacher lesson.

This DBQ has been updated with a page outlining the English Language Arts/History/Social Studies grades 9-10 as outline at http://www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy/RH/9-10 and http://www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy/RH/11-12.
