Description
This bundle of seven resources includes a wide variety of activities for students from informational text, comprehension questions, and internet research. Students will learn about First Nations and Inuit peoples in a general sense (Graphic Organizers resources) and about specific characteristics, such as how different groups adapted to living with nature. These resources concentrate on the historical aspect of Canada’s first peoples rather than a modern perspective.
For more detailed descriptions, please have a look at the individual listings and their previews by using the links below.
1) Canada’s Native Peoples, Indigenous Culture: Choice Board/Tic-Tac-Toe Activities is a collection of 9 activities arranged on a “choice board” designed in a tic-tac-toe format. Each activity has been created to help students learn about the cultural icons of Canada’s Indigenous peoples;
2) Canada’s Native Peoples – 15 Graphic Organizers – Traditional Ways. This set of graphic organizers includes: 3 organizers on each of the following 5 Indigenous peoples of Canada – Inuit, Haida, Blackfoot, Iroquois (Haudenosaunee), and Mi’kmaq (Micmac);

This resource includes: 3 organizers on each of the following 5 Indigenous peoples of the Subarctic region of Canada: the peoples of the Yukon, the Dene, the Cree, the Northern Ojibway and the Innu. The topics for each of the three pages for the five peoples follow the same format as resource #2. (Note: the websites for this resource have been updated as of Feb 17 2020).

7) Tecumseh, His Life and Times: an informational reading and writing unit for upper elementary students in grades 4-6. The text is divided into four passages: 1. Tecumseh’s World in 1768; 2. The Colonists Move West; 3. Tecumseh’s Early Life; and 4. Tecumseh and the War of 1812. Each passage has a page of questions (inference, factual, and opinion) as well as a page of vocabulary and grammar work.
