Suggested Activities for your Camping Theme Classroom:

  • Start with a short video or book reading about camping to introduce the concept of camping and get students excited.
  • Have students bring in items they might need for camping, such as a flashlight, sleeping bag, or water bottle, and talk about why each item is important.
  • Set up a pretend campsite in the classroom or outside and have students practice setting up a tent and a campfire.
  • Have students make their own trail mix using a variety of healthy snacks, such as nuts, raisins, and dried fruit.
  • Read a story or watch a video about wildlife that might be found while camping, and discuss how to stay safe around animals.
  • Have students create their own nature art by collecting leaves, sticks, and other materials from outside and using them to make a collage or sculpture.
  • Teach basic camping skills, such as tying knots and identifying different types of trees and plants.
  • Have a group sing-along of camping songs and encourage students to make up their own verses.
  • Provide opportunities for students to practice teamwork and problem-solving by working together to build a shelter or navigate an obstacle course.
  • Finally, end the day with a pretend campfire, complete with s'mores made from graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows.
