    Description

Teaching students to find library books on the shelves is an important skill in a school library. They need to practice these skills every year as part of our library orientation and review lessons. This no-prep lesson bundle teaches the meaning of call numbers and how to organize books using their spine labels.

    This resource includes:

    • 1 set of Teacher Presentation Slides for Fiction Call Number Order
    • 4 sets of Student Assignment Slides for Fiction Call Number Order
    • 1 set of Teacher Presentation Slides for Nonfiction/ Dewey Decimal Call Number Order
    • 4 sets of Student Assignment Slides for Nonfiction/ Dewey Decimal Call Number Order

The teacher presentation slides should be opened in present mode. They do not include moveable icons, but show how the icons should be moved as you progress through the slides.

These assignments are the same or similar for the first 4-5 slides. Since I use 1 of these lessons in each grade, this allows for a quick review or to use these as a Do Now/ Bell ringer activity. The last 2 slides of each student assignment are unique and require students to drag the books to put them in call number order on the shelves.

You can assign the individual lesson slides to students in Google Classroom as their classwork. You could also project on the board and complete as a whole class. In that case, open the slides in edit mode. There is an audio recording in English and Spanish of questions and directions embedded on most slides. I have also included a video slide where you can add a hyperlink to your instructional video and use for distance learning or to allow students to review the content.

*NOTE: the video slide is not linked to a video so you can use it with any instructional video. But if you want to use my video, here is the link: https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cYQVcRHhXW. However, the slides used in my video are slightly different than those in the TpT version.

The student slides are set up so that when you grade in Google Classroom, you can easily check the answers using the slide previews on the left side and don’t have to click on every slide. This makes grading quick and easy.
