California Mission Research Report & Project Guidelines with Grading Rubric

The second trimester in my classroom brings learning about the California Missions and the history of them in our great state. For a culmination activity, my students take the attached directions, choose a specific mission to research, and create a 10 page report.

I also have my students choose a visual arts project to accompany their report. Their options are to build their specific mission, create a brochure, or visit their mission and become a tour guide. Each child, regardless of their chosen visual arts project, must share specific facts through their oral presentation.

Included in this 4 page packet of materials:
*3 page directions outlining specifics of report, visual art project, and oral presentation
*1 page rubric that includes checklist for each of the 3 components

To use this project, you would just need to print a set of directions for each student and assign missions to research. I usually pass these directions out before vacation, and they present at the end of January.

I hope this assists you. Every year my students enjoy this project, and parents have responded that they also enjoy having a choice between the visual arts projects.
