CPR 101- 3 Activities to Support and Enhance the Basics of CPR

Typically when teaching CPR, teachers are bound by the materials and strict guidelines of the organization providing the training. I found that it lacked activities and information that not only was more appropriate at the secondary level, but was also missing the element of engagement.

I created these activities to act as supplements to learning CPR and can be used no matter which organization or type of CPR training is being used.

Higher or Lower CPR Facts Game:

This game is the perfect way to allow students to learn and understand the important facts and statistics on CPR. Often these stats get overlooked because they aren't presented in a way that is interesting. In the game, students will make their best guesses at numbers that correlate with important CPR facts, which I have found leads to great discussion about the importance and significance of learning CPR. Includes:

Why Do We Perform CPR?

After years of teaching CPR to students, I was shocked on how many didn't seem to understand the very basics of why CPR should be performed. I created this short 2 page reading and created questions to check for understanding. I now include this before showing the videos provided by AHA because I felt like they were lacking in this area. It made such a huge difference in the student's ability to retain the actual steps and logistics of CPR. Includes:

CPR in TV and Movies

This is a great activity to do after students have completed the CPR training. It is a great way to check for understanding by allowing students to critique famous scenes in movie and tv. 3 clips were selected that shows scenarios from bystander CPR. Includes:

• Worksheet for students to complete while watching (both printable and fillable PDFs)
