CONTRACTIONS - DONKEY CARD GAME - 2 Games/44 Contractions
Description
This is a great way to consolidate or review contractions. The DONKEY games double up as an intervention tool as well, so this is the game you need for differentiation. Match the contraction and word/s in a focused session and then introduce the game when the concept is developing. Transferring the game to all-ability groups is the next step. It is so much fun that students ask for more and it's this repetition that some students need for mastery
The words used are:
Set 1: was not/wasn't, will not/won't, you have/you've, have not/haven't, they will/they'll, you will/you'll, I would/I'd, is not/isn't, it is/it's, where is/where's, there is/there's, has not/hasn't, had not/hadn't, I am/I'm, you are/you're, they are/they're, cannot/can't, would not/wouldn't, could not/couldn't, should not/shouldn't, they have/they've, we have/we've
Set 2: were not/weren't, do not/don't, does not/doesn't, what is/what's, I will/I'll, he will/he'll, she will/she'll, how is/how's, who is/who's, I have/I've, did not/didn't, let us/let's, are not/aren't, you would/you'd, it will/it'll, they had/they'd, we would/we'd, that is/that's, must not/mustn't, might not/mightn't, what will/what'll, shall not/shan't
You can leave out pairs without it affecting the game. There is a short version (five minutes or so depending on the number of pairs being played), or a longer one if time permits. This is explained in the DIRECTIONS (included). Both sets are uniform so you can mix and match to suit.
I have included my Contractions Poster for general display and/or intervention support.
