What educators are saying

Note taking is essential wether it is digital or by hand. I loved that I could share all the different formats available to students to use and why it is important.

Description

This is EVERYTHING you need to conduct a two-week mini unit on the importance of note-taking with these two goals:

1. Scientifically prove why taking notes is beneficial to our brain and memory

2. Teach students a variety of note-taking methods so they can find one that works for them.

I hate just asking students to do something without explaining its purpose, so I researched memory and the brain in order to prove why writing things down is important to understanding. Then, I realized that forcing students to use one method that I chose wasn't in their best interest so I decided to research a variety of methods to teach them so they could find the one that worked best for them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Included in this Product:

-57 slide PowerPoint on why Note-Taking helps with the brain

(This includes pictures, gifs, built-in brain games and mini-experiments, and "recap slides." I normally spend 2-3 days on this)

-2-page Student Handout to go along with PowerPoint

-7 PowerPoints each focusing on a different style of note-taking. PPTs focus on the method, what type of situations work best with that style and the pros/cons (Styles include: Mapping, Cornell, INSERT, Gist, Sentence, Charting and Outline)

-Quiz that incorporates reading comprehension and note-taking to use as a summative assessment after the unit
