What educators are saying

This has been a very timely resource. I would have loved to have some quizzes included to help with smaller assessments along the way, but I love all of the other resources. Thank you so much.

Description

Students learn about China's limit on the number of children a family may have as they read Chu Ju's experiences in this fascinating novel by Gloria Whelan. Whelan's interesting characters and startling events are enfolded as students read about China in the 21st Century.

I divided the book into four equal sections of three chapters each. Included in this unit are:

- Cover page for students to fill in with information about the book itself, historical information, and a small word search;

- Reading Check for each chapter; there are direct, short answer questions - True/False and validate response with a quote - Cause and Effect matching - and determine sequence of events;

- Writing Prompts with lines for students to write on, for each of the four sections and for Post-novel. These include Explanatory, Research, Narrative, and more.

- Vocabulary Study worksheet - one for each of the sections;

- Log for places Chu Ju lived;

- Ellipses page for document cameras or similar, as ellipses may be usable for some of the chapter reading checks.

- Teacher Notes

- Answer Key

I include my CCSS ELA RL 6,7,8th Check List
