Description

Are you looking to reinforce writing or listening skills in your music curriculum? Do you want to give your students the tools to evaluate quality choral repertoire and performances? This 15 Week Choir Listening Journal is READY-TO-GO and perfect for any Middle School or High School choral classroom. This Google SLIDE Deck is complete with 15 listening examples with corresponding reflection questions for each example. If listening logs or writing prompts are new for your classroom, this would be a great place to start!

Listening examples include videos from the Eric Whitacre Virtual Choir 6, The Aeolians, Mirabai, the Stellenbosch University Choir, Voces8, Cantus, Chanticleer, the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, and more. Some composers include: Norman Luboff, Andrea Ramsey, Franz Biebl, Camille Saint-Saens, Jake Runestad, and Morten Lauridsen.

All videos are linked using video.link and are trimmed to include only the piece of music if applicable.

If you are interested in creating your own listening journal, please see the listing for my editable Choir Listening Journal TEMPLATE.

Ways to use this resource:

  1. Set aside time once a week to listen to the provided examples as a class or assign as homework.  Can be completed synchronously or asynchronously.  Use the questions as class discussion prompts.
  2. Collect using your preferred class platform weekly, or at the end of the 15 week cycle.  It is recommended that students keep their slides in their Google Drive and submit once the 15 week cycle is complete.
  3. Slides are sized to properly print on 8.5 by 11 sheets if you need to print this resource.  Song links are included as a QR code to assist printed journals.

What will I need to assign this resource to my students?

  1.  Access to the internet
  2. A Google Drive Account

This resource works wonderfully with Google Classroom, but can also be used in Schoology, Canvas, and other platforms.

Why does TPT need access to my Google Drive account for this resource?

TPT will ONLY add the resource to your Google Drive, and will not be able to change anything in your Drive.  This process ensures that you receive your own, individual copy of this resource.

How do I collect student work?

Your students will simply complete their own copies of the lesson and turn them into your platform (ie. Google Classroom).

This product is created for ease of use with Google Drive.  However, all Google products can be downloaded as a Powerpoint or PDF if that is your preferred method of content delivery.
