What educators are saying

I used this as a station activity for review. The students did really well with matching the functions with the organelle and testing themselves before a big test. It was beneficial, engaging and super easy to set up and use. I highly recommend!
I cut these out as individual cards and students have to try to group the four correct cards together for each organelle. They like the game and it's a great review before the organelles quiz that they take.

Description

In this product you will have access to sort cards representing the following organelles:

  • Cell Membrane, Cell Wall, Nucleus, ER (does not specify rough vs. smooth but pictures both together), Ribosome, Lysosome, Cytoplasm, Chloroplast, Mitochondria, Golgi Apparatus/ Body, Vacuole

For each organelle there are 3 associated sort cards:

  • An analogy (image), Definition (Job/ Function), and an image of the organelle

Sort Cards are excellent tools to assess student learning. This visual and hands on activity may be used with small groups or for individuals. It acts as a study aid that involves critical thinking as students connect analogies to their content. These organelle sort cards may be used traditionally where all four cards are matched together, or they may be used in one of the following ways:

1. Matching with Differentiation: Simplify and choose how you want students to match cards..etc:

  • Organelle picture with the Definition
  • Organelle picture with the Analogy
  • Organelle Picture with the Name

2. Print in color and hang as a useful word wall

3. Incorporate as part of a scavenger hunt where students search for their answers around the room

4. Create flashcards - Reusable by laminating, hole punching, and placing on a key ring

5. Cut and paste into notebooks!

6. Have students color in the images while writing out the definitions and analogies

7. Have students sort cards and then provide explanations for the analogies
