What educators are saying

My students loved the variety that this resource provided. It inspired them to think beyond what was written and inspired great conversation in class.

    Description

Story Sleuths I, II, and III Bundle delivers 3 products at 20% savings. You will receive 12 weeks of clues for the Story Sleuth challenge; an enrichment unit using Caldecott Award winning books to cultivate critical thinking. Your students will use text features, illustrations, and context to determine which book is described by the set of clues. By involving your students in this project, you will exercise their deductive reasoning, analysis, evaluation, and problem solving skills. This unit is CCSS aligned. Students also enjoy great literature, learn about artistic media, and participate in collaborative thinking.

Designed to be conducted by an enrichment specialist, librarian, or art teacher for whole school enrichment, it can easily be adapted to single classroom use. Originally intended for students in 1st - 3rd grades, I have found that kindergarten and 4th grade classes enjoy it as well.

    CONTENTS

    • 6 book icons with artists' media notes
    • 4 sets of clues
    • 4 award certificates

    HOW TO USE THIS PRODUCT

    • After reading a specific set of Caldecott books, students are given 1 week to solve a set of clues that describe 1 of the books. (Some great critical thinking discussions are generated when done as a whole class or in small groups.)
    • At the end of the week, winning teams are announced and awarded a certificate.
    • On Monday, a new set of clues is given.
    • Play continues in this way for 4 weeks.
