Description

This Print and Go Byzantine Empire Escape Room is a winning combination of stations, close reading and comprehension skills, secret codes, movement, citing evidence with text marking and critical thinking! Everything a teacher dreams of wrapped up into one FUN and engaging stations activity.

Topics include: Middle Ages, Byzantine Empire, Roman Empire, Justinian, religion, Constantine, Medieval Period

Students will revisit their non-fiction reading passage several times (at each station) to seek answers and cite evidence. Great addition to your World History or Middle Ages lesson plans.

What’s Included?

✔️ Reading Passage

✔️ 5 Stations

✔️ Teacher & Student Directions

✔️ Text Marking Option

✔️ Answer Key

✔️ Prop Signs

With their reading passage in hand, students will move around the classroom visiting 5 stations. At each station, they will determine a 4-digit code and reveal a “letter clue” to determine the final ALPHA code. In order to “escape” students must present the 4-digit code for EVERY station as well as the final 4-digit ALPHA code. They must show completion on all stations.

To ensure understanding of the subject matter, students will answer questions that can be found directly in their reading passage. No prior knowledge is needed. This is a great front-loading activity that allows students to get some facts while previewing key vocabulary words, people, places or events that you will teach throughout your unit.

Students will work in pairs (or individually) and race to complete all 5 stations. A friendly competition always increases engagement. Students will read the informational text, answer questions and reveal letter clues, which ultimately lead to a final 4-digit ALPHA code.

You do NOT need a lock! You do NOT need fancy envelopes! There’s no odd shapes to cut out! This PRINT AND GO product is meant to make your life easy! The only thing you need to do is place the station cards around the room! No locks required, though you can certainly add a programmable four-digit lock to add an element of mystery if you so choose. NOTE: Each station reveals a numeric code, and the final code is an alpha code. (6 codes total)

Many teachers loved the CUBE CODES but requested a version that did not require assembly in an effort to save time and paper. Therefore, I created this Escape Room :) The questions and activities are the SAME activities found in the Cube Codes but delivered in a different format.

In an effort to save paper, you only have to print the Station Cards ONE TIME! Students will record all of the answers on their own recording sheet. You’ll instruct your students not to write on the station cards, and instead write the answers on their own recording sheet.

Station Tasks

✔️ Station 1: Fill in the Blank

✔️ Station 2: Find the Paragraph

✔️ Station 3: True or False

✔️ Station 4: Lock Combination

✔️ Station 5: Multiple Choice

Station 1: Students will determine the missing words in the paragraph to reveal a 4-digit code and reveal a "letter" clue.

Station 2: Students will number the paragraphs and browse the passage to determine where the answers can be found (paragraph number). After eliminating numbers, a 4 digit code will be revealed. A "letter" clue will also be reveled.

Station 3: Students will read each statement and determine if it is true or false. They will then ADD all TRUE values to find the 4 digit code. A "letter" clue will also be reveled.

Station 4: Students will do some basic math here, read the passage to find the answers and then determine the 4 digit code. A "letter" clue will also be reveled.

Station 5: Students will answer 6 multiple choice questions which lead them to a 4 digit code based on the number of times they used each “ABCD" answer. A "letter" clue will also be reveled.

OPTIONAL: A color code chart is included in case you want students to mark the text, citing evidence of where they found their answers. (This will increase completion time)
