Bundle: Elements of Music Grades 4 to 6

Designed to meet the requirements of the Ontario Music Curriculum for grades 4 to 6, this bundle is suitable for all music teachers--even if you're not music qualified! The Ontario Music Curriculum breaks down music into six elements, with progressing depth of focus each year. The elements of music are the building blocks of musical literacy, so it's important students understand each element and can apply that knowledge to music they listen to. This bundle will help define the elements, put the elements into action, and solidify their knowledge with a game. Grades 7 & 8 will also enjoy the game, however, if they have had a solid music education so far, the bundle specifically for grades 7-8 has a more challenging game.

Music Elements Dictionary

Designed to meet the requirements of the Ontario Music Curriculum for grades 1 to 8, this 16 page worksheet packet is suitable for all music teachers--even if you're not musical! The elements of music are the building blocks of musical literacy, so it's important students understand each element. This could be a unit on its own, or each unit can be its own unit along with other activities. Pages are ready to print and go. All pages are duo-tang and binder friendly with doodle space for those that need to have active hands. No more losing information when a page in put inside a duo-tang!

There is a blank set, a lined set, and a set for each division. Answer keys included!

Analyze a Song From the Year I Was Born

This booklet could be a unit on its own, or each element can be completed after learning about that element in lessons.

Students select a song that was released the year they were born. Teachers can create their own list of approved songs from different genres, or give students freedom to choose (or both). Each element is then examined with specific questions based on curriculum requirements. The questions for all grades are on the page, to make it easy to print, fold, and go. You can decide for your own students which questions to answer. Completing the booklet will give students a solid knowledge base of what makes a song unique and musical, and will contribute to fulfilling the Ontario Music Curriculum Overall Expectations C2 (Reflecting, Responding, and Analyzing) and C3 Exploring Forms and Cultural Contexts.

Music Elements Google Slides Games

Designed to meet the requirements of the Ontario Music Curriculum for grades 4 to 8, this fun filled game is suitable for all music teachers--even if you're not music qualified. A sub/supply teacher could also run the game. It could be run for the full class, either with teams or individually, or in small groups. The questions focus on the grades 4-6 curriculum, but would be good review for grades 7/8 or for students that have not had consistent music education prior.

Progress through the 16 slides is easy, with large clickable areas that either go to the "Correct" slide, or the "Incorrect" slide, and if Incorrect, back to the question.

The PDF answer tracking sheet can be used with the game or even on its own as a review or quiz.

Music Listening Journals

This resource meets the requirements of the Ontario Music Curriculum for grades 4 to 8. This 6 page worksheet packet is suitable for all music teachers--even if you're not music qualified. One page was created to be paired with the book "Black Music Greats: 40 Inspiring Icons" by Olivier Cachin, which is a fantastic Black History Month resource. It could also be used on it's own during BHM. The second page is for more general listening lessons, and the third page is specific to the music elements in the Ontario Music Curriculum. All pages are duo-tang and binder friendly with doodle space for those that need to have active hands during listening. Front and back pages are different. No more losing information when a page in put inside a duo-tang!
