Description

I teach in a primary school – grades K-2. Every spring, each grade level has the task of building the next grade’s class lists and there are always several factors to consider. We narrowed these factors down to reading level, (Fountas & Pinnell,) aggressive behaviors, defiance, disruptive tendencies, leadership, gender, and special education/intervention services.

1. Individual teachers click on “First,” “Second,” or “Third” tabs and type in their class list in the “Student” column. All teachers need to do this before moving forward.

2. For tracking purposes, add your name as the current teacher.

3. Type in each student’s reading level letter.

4. Enter a 1,2 or 3 for any behaviors where 1=somewhat problematic and 3 = very problematic.

5. If this student can be considered a leader, enter a 1 in the Leader column.

6. Enter a 1 in the Male or Female Column.

7. Total the number of Special Education/Intervention Services in the Other Services column.

8. Once all students in the grade are entered, go in and assign a class with a number 1-6 in the “New Class” column. These numbers represent different teachers. If you are building Grade 1, teacher #3 will be the 1.3 worksheet. If you are building Grade 2, teacher #4 will be the 2.4 worksheet.

While building each class, you can keep track of average reading level, number and degree of behaviors, number of leaders, boy vs. girl totals, and number of possible special education service pull-outs. This information can be found in the black “Class Data” bar at the top of each class page.

*Deleting columns or rows will disrupt the flow of the spreadsheet. Please make a few extra copies so that you can go back to the original – if needed. A good idea would be to leave these areas blank if they are not pertinent to your class list building.
