Description

Where I'm From Poems are a great way to get students writing with imagery!

These poems are tied with the first poem in Jacqueline Woodson's memoir, Brown Girl Dreaming. There is a book trailer for the memoir, example from the memoir, and 2 more examples.

This is the assignment sheet and there is a 30 point rubric for grading at the bottom.

My students really enjoyed this assignment! We completed the assignment as a part of our To Kill A Mockingbird unit, but it could be a great stand-alone activity as well. We used Google Slides to type them and students were required to print the poems for submission. They make for beautiful classroom decor as well!
