    Resource Two: British Literature Literary Periods and Movements Digital Poster Project

    Enhance your instruction and add an additional activity, review, or assessment with this creative, high-interest British Literature project!

    Students will create dynamic digital posters illustrating British literary periods with images, texts, and graphics representative of that specific literary movement.

    There are two different project options for differentiation and to provide flexibility as to when you should implement this activity.

    In the first project option, students will create two digital posters for the same British Literature literary period. This project option can be implemented as you are covering literature for that specific time frame or use this as a way to assess students once you have completed a literary movement.

    The second option allows students to choose five literary movements and design a poster representative of each. This project would provide a great mid-year review or can be used as an end of the year British Literature assessment.

    Materials, such as the grading rubric and student project handout, are provided for both of these options. Teachers choose the one they want to use!

    This high-interest technology project uses the free, user-friendly site, Adobe Spark! You can create the dynamic digital posters with ANY device (including iPads)!

    This resource includes ELEVEN project examples created using Adobe Spark for each British Literature Literary Period!

    Students can view examples for the following literary movements:

    Anglo-Saxon, Medieval, Renaissance, Neoclassical, Romanticism, Victorian, Modernism, Postmodernism and Contemporary

    The British Literary Movement posters will serve as a project model while sparking your students’ imaginations and motivating them to create and design their own!

    What is a British Literature Literary Period Poster?

    British Literary Period Posters display the unique characteristics of the literary works and writing that occurred during a specific historical time frame or during a unique British literary and/or social movement.

    Students will select from the following options to feature on their digital posters:

    • The Name of the Literary Period or Movement
    • Defining Characteristics of the Writing
    • Popular Types of Writing
    • The Writer’s Purpose or the Reader’s Impact
    • External Influences Impacting Writing Styles and Content (a proceeding literary movement, historical events that were occurring or had already happened, beliefs/mindset of society, etc.)
    • Examples of Stories, Authors, Themes, Common Symbols, etc

    This project includes a Final Handout where students list the content in their posters and must explain the relevance (ensuring they are held accountable for their poster choices).

    This teaching resource includes the following:

    • A pdf teacher’s guide with Google Drive links to all student and teacher resources;
    • Student Literary Movements Poster Project Sheet with clear directions and suggestions for poster content – including poster requirements and additional ideas – for both activity options;
    • Directions for signing up for an account at Adobe Express (formerly Spark), a How-To Create a Poster Guide, and a link to a YouTube video on creating posters using Adobe Express’s website;
    • Links to 11 total British Literary Movement Posters to Serve as a Project Models;

    Students can share their project’s URL on their final project handouts or create letter-sized posters for printing!
