Description

Engage your middle school students in meaningful text dependent analysis writing, creative expression, and collaborative conversation using the beautiful song lyrics of "Lost Boy" by Ruth B. This week long unit features multiple writing prompts that offer students the stage to share not just what they think, but why they think what they think, using specific text evidence. Students are also presented the opportunity to connect these song lyrics to their own personal life experiences. The story behind Ruth B's creation of these lyrics is included, as is activities that tap into your students' creative energy. The culminating Socratic seminar will have students discussing the lyrics in detail with their classmates through included open-ended questions that are sure to deepen your students' understanding of the song and foster their speaking and listening skills as well.
