Description
The lesson begins with an overview of the Treaty of Nanjing and the causes of the Boxer Rebellion.
Next, students read six documents to learn about both the Western and Chinese perspectives of the Boxer Rebellion. The documents include a newspaper article, recruitment poster, map, cartoon, and more.
Finally, students use the information from the documents to take on either the Chinese or Western perspective and create their own recruitment poster. In the poster, there must be evidence of why that side is fighting and their side's ultimate goal for engaging in the conflict.
