Description

Are you looking for a visual and engaging introduction to interoception that uses easy to understand language and fun activities that you can use with you students? This social narrative helps children to understand the importance of noticing body sensations and linking them to emotions. Supporting students to link body sensations to emotions will help them identify their own feelings and support their emotional regulation.

The best bit?

This story is low prep, visual, simple and adaptable. It uses clear and simple interoception  language to support students to understand this important topic. It also comes with a customizable version where students can select which body sensations they have for specific emotions! This makes the social narrative more personal and meaningful, to increase student engagement (which also means you can use it as an extra lesson to use with you students!)

Why use social narratives?

Social narratives are a communication strategy to support students to understand a concept, skill, behavior or situation. Social narratives can help build a student’s interoceptive self-awareness through providing information in a clear and easily understood format. I use them all the time in my therapy sessions as they help students understand new topics and learn important skills.

The details:

Two versions of the social narrative are provided:

  • Version 1: Is a pre-set social narrative (not editable)
  • Version 2: Is an editable and customizable story (see description on version two for details)

Version 1: “Your amazing body” social narrative (not editable):

Details what body sensations are, why they are important and how body sensations give us clues to our feelings.

Version 2: “Your amazing body” social narrative is editable, so you can customize the body sensations specific to the student/s you are working with:

Details of the editable section of social story: Pages 5 to 19 are editable. Each page comes with 28 body sensation visuals that can be moved, increased, or decreased in size and deleted. As we can all experience different sensations for different feelings, these pages create an opportunity to customize body sensations to feelings that are specific to the student(s).

The story comes in a PowerPoint format. If you need a different format please get in touch.
