Description

This reader's theater was written for four students. It ties in Social Studies with Language Arts. It is about a former Olympian, Bob Beamon, who set the world's record in the long jump in 1968. In the script, Student #1 is practicing their lines for a report on a biography about Robert ‘Bob’ Beamon when the other students hear them. At first, they are confused and think that the student is going to talk about the first landing on the moon. Student #1 and #4 explain who Bob Beamon was and is and why he is such a great person and athlete. Everyone is impressed by Bob Beamon’s record. Students are asked to respond in writing afterwards about what makes someone a hero.

I use reader's theater as a way to encourage my reluctant readers to raise their fluency. It motivates everyone! My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone. I wrote this reader's theater for Black History Month but it could be used any time. If you like this script, take a look at some of my others. The reason I choose to write scripts for small groups is because students aren't waiting as long to do their part and they get more practice in. Please let me know what you think of this one. My scripts are black and white and have very little color to make it cheaper to photocopy because they use less ink. Thank you.
