Description
An excellent resource to build capacity and understanding around Black Lives Matter.
BACKGROUNDER:
More than two years ago, Fox News television host Laura Ingraham asked LeBron James to “shut up and dribble” when the NBA player was publicly critical of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Here is LeBron James's response to that silencing and to the DEATH OF GEORGE FLOYD IN MINNEAPOLIS BY POLICE (May 25th, 2020).
In the wake of widespread protests about racial injustices following the death of George Floyd, James released a video on his Instagram. The post re-purposes Ingraham's words into a powerful 30-second poem, starting with the phrase, "Shut up and dribble."
This Resource invites students to pay close attention to the video-poem and to respond in Double-Entry Journal format to each line. It's also a wonderful opportunity to teach 'intertextuality' and to show how texts we read are built based on other texts and references.
LeBron's video is an important historical piece, responding to racial injustices in the present and in the past.
