Black History Songs and Orff Activities Music BUNDLE | Rap, Spiritual, Classics

This 4-song bundle will fulfill all of your needs for quality Black History Month and Martin Luther King, Jr Day experiences in the classroom and for concerts and celebrations. The grade span is 2 through 7 (because of instrumental parts) although K-1 can easily sing "Dr. King Had a Dream" and "We Shall Not Be Moved."

We Shall Not Be Moved

• Grades 4-7 (These grades were chosen because of the instrumental parts. The melody can easily be sung by K-3)
• Companion song to "In My House," a new book by Rhiannon Giddens. This book fuses Black History with music. The book ends with a line from the song. This book goes on my MOST LOVED list.
• Activities to teach the I, IV, V7 harmonies using Orff parts and ukulele.
• Perform using only Orff or only ukulele, or a combination.

Fly Away

• Grades 3-5
• Companion to the beautiful and impactful book, "The Year We Learned to Fly," by Jacqueline Woodson.
• SUPER simple Orff instrumental parts with barred instruments and ukulele (C and F)
• Recorder part (opt)

Dr. King Had a Dream

• Grades 2-5 ((These grades were chosen because of the instrumental parts. The melody can easily be sung by K-1)
• New words set to "He's Got the Whole World In His Hands."
• Partner song "B" section
• EASY ukulele F & C7 accompaniment (or piano)

Martin's Dream

• Grades 4-6
• One of my favorite resources because of the B section which includes some of the most-used vocabulary from MLK's speeches.
• Rap writing activity for a possible "C" section
• Super rhythmic, fun ORFF instrumental part
• Recorder BAGED (opt) part
