What educators are saying

Everything from this seller is always top quality and this is no exception. These are perfect to use during Black History Month or just any time during the school year.
My students really liked using this resource during Black History Month. The texts were engaging and the difficulty of the language level was perfect for my Grade 8 French Immersion class. It is a great resource!

Description

In need of relevant reading and activities that are engaging but still at an appropriate level for your French Immersion students? Want to teach your students about Black History Month… but within a Canadian context?

This Black History Month resource was designed especially for French learners in mind! Grades 7-9 immersion or grades 11-12 Core French.

With a total of 10 possible biographies to read, there are lots of learning options for your students… but no prep for you!

Cherchez-vous des textes à lire qui sont au niveau de vos élèves et qui sont aussi engageants? Essayez cette ressource pour les élèves d’immersion française de la 7e à la 9e année (ou 11e 12e Français de base).

This resource includes:

  • 10 different Canadian biographies from history and from today (anglophone and francophone) to keep learning relevant for your students
  • Comprehension questions (answer key included) and relevant vocabulary to support student understanding of each text
  • 4 different activities options so that you can use the texts in a variety of different ways. (You could read a few together, have students pair up and create “interviews”, play a jeopardy style game… and more!)
  • Teaching strategies so you can quickly prep your lessons
  • All are editable and include printable and digital versions so you can use them online and in class… or in the hybrid model!

How to use this resource:

  1. Choose which texts you would like to use
  2. Edit the texts and comprehension questions if desired
  3. Choose your activity style
  4. Print and copy or share online
  5. Use it with your students!

FAQ’s:

Q: Could this story be used with Grade 6’s? What about Grade 10’s?

A: It could be used with grade 6 but I would recommend modifying it to either study a few people as a class or shorten the texts to make them simpler for students. The writing isn’t hugely complex, but each biography is a 1-2 pages long.

Q: How long will this resource take to complete?

A: There are a lot of options to use this resource. You could choose to simply read one biography with the class and answer questions (1-2 lessons), or do a number of the activities and extension research that could take a few weeks!

Q: Who is included?

A: Viola Desmond, WIllie O’Ree, Mifflin Wistar Gibbs, Barbara Howard, Dany Laferrière, Trey Anthony, Fabienne Colas, Corneille, Chris Boucher et Sarahmée Ouellet.
