First, read the book, "Have You Thanked an Inventor?" These activities go hand in hand with the book to create a fun, interactive way to reinforce their study of interesting African American inventors and practice pre-k and kindergarten skills. Perfect for Black History Month!

Activity 1- Build a traffic light for Garrett Morgan, inventor of the traffic light.

Activity 2- Sort items that need to be refrigerated for John Standard, inventor of the improved refrigerator.

Activity 3- Number/Numeral matching for George Washington Carver, inventor of peanut butter.

Activity 4- Match beginning sounds for lunch box items for James Robinson, inventor of the lunch box.

Activity 5- Find pictures with the "ch" sound as in "chips" for George Crum, inventor of potato chips.

Activity 6- Sort hot and cold pictures for Frederick Jones, inventor of the portable air-conditioner.

Activity 7- Choose items you need for your hair for Lyda Newman, inventor of the improved hairbrush.

Activity 8- Add the missing numbers to the clock for Benjamin Banneker, who created the first American clock.

Activity 9- Sort cleaning and cooking items for Thomas Steward, inventor of the improved mop.

Activity 10- Match common shapes of door knobs for Osbourn Dorsey, inventor of the door knob.

    Printables:

3 Notable African Americans in 3 different printable books.

A printable book about George Washington Carver, Mae Jemison, and Garrett Morgan. Simple information that gets right to the point with simple facts about these important people. A second printable has blank spaces for children to write in their own facts. Books are also sold separately in the store.

In addition, I have added a printable class book template for the poem, Honey, I Love by Eloise Greenfield. Ms Greenfield is a great poet to study during Black History Month and for Valentine's Day. Included in this activity is a Valentine template and a hat.
