Black History Month Calligram Art
Description
This art assignment was created to highlight the incredible contributions by African Canadians/Americans to society. Students are to highlight a historic/current figure by using adjectives, contributions and or notable words that help illustrate their figure.
It contains 6 pages (to be printed out and given to students) containing step by step instructions, elements of design used, a rough draft, rubric etc.
Elements of design used:
• Line:
G7:Lines for expressive purposes; diagonal and converging lines to create depth of space; repetition of lines to create visual rhythm
G8: Directional lines; one- and two-point perspective to create depth; contour drawings of figures
• Shape and form:
G7: Various shapes and forms, symbols, icons, logos, radial balance
G8: Various visual “weights” of forms (e.g., large, light-coloured forms can seem to have less weight than smaller, dark forms); complex three-dimensional constructions and motifs; gradation in size
• Space:
G7: Use of blue or complementary colours in shadows and shading to create depth; one- and two point perspective
G8: One- and two-point perspective or foreshortening to create illusory space; informal converging lines in an image creating the illusion of space;
