Bedroom Vocabulary Game ESL/ELL/ENL
- PDF
Description
Our ELL vocabulary bingo game provides a FUN and INTERACTIVE way for English language learners to practice and develop their language skills! Students will broaden their vocabulary as they learn and remember new words. Additionally, they will improve their listening comprehension skills by listening to the caller's instructions. Lastly, the game encourages speaking and conversation as students communicate with their peers while playing!
While we chose to include Spanish, this game provides opportunities to learn regardless of native language. In addition, for teachers not fluent in Spanish, this gives you an opportunity to engage in conversation with Spanish speaking students.
The game was created with ELL/ESL teachers in mind. However it can be used in multiple settings, i.e. general education classroom, speech/language, Pre-K - K small/whole group, etc.
In addition to playing the game, the playing cards can be utilized independently to address multiple standards that involve vocabulary, function, categorizing, conversation skills, etc.
How to play the game
- Print on cardstock and cut apart 36 calling cards. Shuffle and lay face down.
- Print the bedroom scene and BINGO mats (the ones without the words.). Give each student a BINGO mat. Display the bedroom scene so all students can see.
- Students take turns drawing a card and identifying the object. If they have that object on their BINGO mat, they mark it with a dry erase marker or token.
- Encourage them to see if they can find that object in the bedroom scene. (Note - Not all objects are in the scene.) Discuss where those objects not in the scene might be found.
- The first person to cover all objects on their mats is the winner.
Your students will love building their vocabulary with this FUN game!
