Description
This Thanksgiving Day Parade unit is perfect for the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving Break. It starts off with a lesson, classroom game, and partner activity to learn problem and solution. During the read aloud of Balloons Over Broadway students focus on problem and solution. After the read aloud they complete a problem/solution reading response activity. Next, you will move on to a character traits mini-lesson. Students will determine traits for the main character, Tony Sarg.
After students learn how the parade came to be, you will dive deeper into the creative process of the parade floats. Use the informational videos by Macy’s to discuss the steps of creating a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon. Comprehension questions are also included! Next, students will use their creativity to follow a simplified process to design their very own parade balloon.
Have some extra time? The extra activities included are great supplemental resources that take this unit to the next step. Students will build vocabulary and practice identifying story elements.
