What educators are saying

Great project to assign the kids while I was out and they were with a sub. Easy to follow and easy to implement with the kids.
Students always want to think about owning the fancy or cool car and need to see the real price that comes along with own that car

Description

Buying a car is one thing many students look forward to even though they often have no clue what all is involved. This simulation takes students through the process of determining a budget based on career choice, finding a car, calculating total cost, down payment, financing and finally, depreciation. Along the way they must make choices such as new or used, 4, 5 or 6 year loan and whether or not to spend their entire allotted budget. All relevant numbers are found on the internet giving students a very realistic view of current costs.

You will need Google Slides to assign to your students; slides are fully editable and contain textboxes for student entry. You can change details such as links used to find cars or to fit your local sales tax, and the level of difficulty can be adjusted as needed. Slides are formatted for letter-size printing in case you also need printed copies.

Need to send distance learning work to your students or leave a few day's work for a sub? This project does not require special math knowledge and walks students through all calculations that need to be made. (You can, of course, remove some of the prompts to make the assignment more challenging) Assignment will fit almost anywhere into any middle or high school math, financial literacy, life management or economics class.

EDIT: I've been asked what is the difference between this and the other Buying a Car assignment in my store. This one involves straightforward prompted calculations while the other requires use of algebra equations, functions and systems.
