Letters A-Z Beginning Sounds Including Short and Long Vowels with Keywords

    • Foundational Skills • Letter Identification • Print Concepts• Phonics • Phonemes • Graphemes • Letter Sounds

Are you looking for letter, keyword, sound phonics flashcards that are aligned to Science of Reading? These flashcards are for words that begin with Letters A-Z! These cards display both the short and long vowels or hard and soft consonant sounds. There are 8 cards with real photographs per sound, with the exception of X (see below). Along with each card, a keyword and real picture (not a drawing and NOT clipart!) is provided for students to make a connection to the real-world.

How to use this resource in the classroom:

    • Print on cardstock, cut out the cards.
    • Demonstrate how to use the center in a small group, and practice with the group using several of the cards.
    • Children say the name of each picture, choose the picture that begins with a different sound to the other two, and covers that picture that does not belong with a counter, small block etc.
    • To differentiate, vary the number of cards offered. Start with just a few cards.

Remember, you can always expand on these words with creative activities like:

    • Drawing pictures: Encourage your students to illustrate their favorite words.
    • Making up stories: Use the keywords to build a silly or adventurous narrative.
    • Playing games: Create word puzzles, rhymes, or scavenger hunts.
    • I hope this list sparks your imagination and helps your students continue exploring the wonderful world of words!

    Only available in color!
