Description
Hello Fellow Teacher,
Thank you for considering this bundle which includes detailed lesson plans and activities for Lord of the Flies, 1984, and Catcher in the Rye. Here is more information about each unit:
1. 1984 Unit, Socratic Seminar, Background Info, Presentations, & More
his PDF includes 15 slides of content:
Part I:
- The first five slides include lessons with activities and questions for students as you introduce the novel and work your way through it.
- On each slide, there are three activities and three discussion questions. This means you have a total of eighteen activities and eighteen discussion questions.
- Use the activities and questions however you see fit.
Part II:
The next five slides are broken into five categories: characterization, setting, internal conflict, external conflict, and themes. Each category/slide has three discussion questions. Here are some ideas for how to use these five slides:
- Socratic seminar which encourages critical thinking and allows students to learn from each other's perspectives.
- Break your class into thirds, and each group gets a question. Give them 20 minutes to prepare a “mini presentation” in which they share their questions and responses with the class. Students in the audience will ask questions when they are done presenting.
- Short answer responses
- Set up different stations around the classroom, each focused on a specific aspect of literature (characterization, theme, symbolism, etc.). Students rotate through the stations and respond to questions or prompts related to each aspect.
- Create a Jeopardy-style game with categories such as characters, plot, quotes, and symbolism. Students can work in teams to answer question.
Part III:
The next slide has ten true/false questions. Use these questions in any of the following ways:
- a quiz
- Split your class into team of four. Show the questions on the board and have each team write T or F on their paper. After you get through all ten questions, go over the answers to see which team won. Students will explain the correct answers for the questions they ID’s as false.
- Ask one question at a time, and students will ID if the answer is true or false. If it is false, students will have to explain the correct answer.
- The answers are on the following slide.
