Description
This accounting bundle includes 5 hands-on, engaging resources to help your students better understand business finances and introductory accounting for a TOTAL OF ABOUT 8 HOURS of material. Various instructional ideas shared to help you further engage students or go deeper in the content. The 5 resources are:
1. Accounting Scavenger Hunt Game (approximately 30 - 40 minutes) - 18 questions with answer key (all answers accessed via webquest)
2. Income Statement Project (approximately 2 - 2.5 hours)- 6 pages with 5 parts outlined:
- Income Statement Project PARTS 1 - 3: order the parts of an income statement including revenue, cost of goods sold, operating expenses, and calculating net profit. Using this information, answer questions in a graphic organizer about GAAP standards and basic accounting
- Income Statement Project 4 - 5: prepare an income statement in Excel based a provided narrative. Students then analyze the income statement and operations to develop methods to increase revenue and cut expenses and prepare a second income statement outlining the new strategy and how it impacted the bottom line.
3. Balance Sheet Project (approximately 2 hours) - This 5 part accounting project helps students demonstrate an understanding of intro accounting, balance sheets, the accounting equation, assets, liabilities, owners' equity and account classification. Use graphic organizer to:
- calculate assets, liabilities and shareholders' equity using the accounting equation
- identify current and noncurrent assets and liabilities
- classify accounts for various narrative information about a company
- calculate current ratio
4. Financial Statements Activity (approximately 1.5 hours)- Help students make sense of the big picture in accounting with this activity to explore financial statements including income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement. Students use this 3 page graphic organizer to research a company's stock summary, financial data, calculate financial ratios such as profitability ratios (gross profit margin, operating profit margin, and net profit margin) as well as the current ratio and debt-to-equity ratio. This activity offers instructional flexibility to meet students where they are in their understanding of financial statements.
4. Debit Credit Theory Song Graphic Organizer (approximately 10 - 15 minutes) - Harness the power of music to increase student learning and memory recall! This 1 page worksheet utilizes a YouTube video on the debit credit theory of accounting. Use the graphic organizer as a video notes guide or assignment. Answer key included making your job easier! Perfect for in person or distance learning.
