***BUNDLE*** Grade 2 Math Enrichment - FOUR Inquiry Based Projects

This is a bundle of four enrichment projects I’ve created to help push my higher level math thinkers and readers in grade 2 to the next level of real-world math application. Though I used them for grade 2, they could easily be used for grades 3 and 4 as well.

In one project, students are given the task to design their own school by deciding the number of classrooms, floors, teachers, and types of grades and classrooms. They will answer questions about their school and design a floor plan for each floor of their school. They will also use a bar graph to answer questions about students per grade level at the "Math Academy".

Skills assessed include:

-solving multiple step word problems

-adding two-digit numbers within 100

-adding two-digit numbers within 1000

-adding multiple two-digit numbers

-addition strategies within 100

-subtraction strategies within 100

-bar graph interpretation/analysis

In the second project, students are given a book catalog and asked to spend $200 to buy at least 20 books/items for their classroom. They used the catalog to choose their books and list them with individual item prices, quantity and total cost.

Skills assessed include:

-solving multiple step word problems

-adding two-digit numbers within 100

-adding multiple two-digit numbers

-repeated addition / multiplication

-addition strategies within 100

In the third project, students are given the task to use actual distance data between cities in New England to calculate the total distance of given trips for the Triumphant Train Company. They will calculate the distances and use the data to answer questions and create a bar graph.

Skills assessed include:

-solving multiple step word problems

-adding two-digit numbers within 100

-adding three-digit numbers within 1,000

-adding multiple two- and three-digit numbers

-addition strategies within 1,000

-subtraction strategies within 1,000

-bar graph interpretation/analysis

-bar graph creation

This is another enrichment project I created to help push my higher level math thinkers in grade 2 to the next level of real-world math application. Though I used it for grade 2, it could easily be used for grades 3 and 4 as well.

In the "Butterfly Observatory" enrichment project, students are given the task to measure the wingspan of several made-up butterfly species for the Beautiful Butterfly Observatory in both inches and centimeters and record their data in a table. After recording, students will use the data to create a line plot using inches, and a bar graph for their centimeters information.

The product includes space for students to show their work, as well as questions for students to answer about the information they collected, calculated and completed. A teacher rubric is included to assess student work. A student reflection rubric and survey are also included to give you feedback about your students' experience with the project. This can be used as a classroom enrichment project, small group project, or even homework based on your students.

Skills assessed include:

-precise measurement in inches and centimeters

-comparison of two measurements taken of the same object

-solving multiple step word problems

-adding two-digit numbers within 100

-adding multiple two-digit numbers

-line plot creation

-bar graph interpretation/analysis

-bar graph creation

Each product also includes a space for students to show their work, as well as questions for students to answer about the table they completed. A teacher rubric is included to assess student work. A student reflection rubric and survey are also included to give you feedback about your students' experience with the project. This can be used as a classroom enrichment project, small group project, or even homework based on your students.
