Are your students still confused about author's purpose? My third graders struggle with this concept so I wrote these passages to help them! When students read and analyze three reading passages about the same topic, it's easier to focus on the clues that determine author's purpose (facts, opinions, narration, etc). Every passage in this set focuses on fireflies.
⭐️The persuasive text tries to convince the reader to release any fireflies that they catch.
⭐️The informational text explains why fireflies glow.
⭐️The entertaining text tells a story about a boy catching fireflies one night.
Google Slides are included to help with virtual learning! The link includes the reading passages with color pictures, the student reflection sheet, and the matching activity.

*For whole group mini lessons, the discussion guide is helpful to facilitate conversation among students. The matching activity would be a great follow-up. Alternatively, the free response sheet can be used in small groups or if partners are working together to analyze the passages.
