What educators are saying

This was a great resource to use! The students were engaged throughout it. The only problem is looking at the primary source newspapers on computers- many students had a hard time reading these but it was supplemented with the other sources provided.

Description

Teachers, transform your class into a CSI investigation of one of the most notorious assassinations in history, the spark which started Word War I! In this critical thinking, problem-based learning activity, your students become sleuths, competing in collaborative groups to unravel the murder of the Archduke to determine who is most to blame and to further fuel discussion on the causes of WWI. Even better, students draw parallels to modern-day CSI investigations to make this lesson real-world and relevant! The lesson is also packed with background notes to the causes of WWI. As an 19-year veteran history teacher, I have tested this lesson and the students were thoroughly excited and engaged!

Update Note (1/11/2020): Some teachers recently requested I provide the digital version of the CSI investigation table for students to complete so here is the link. And here's the link to the recommended evidence for students to explore. Enjoy!
