What educators are saying
Description
May is AAPI Heritage Month and this download kicks off 21 days of the month with the story of an inspiring Asian American or Pacific Islander! Prep-Free and perfect for ALL AGES, the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Bundle provides days of learning and reflection, while supporting social-emotional awareness and growth as students find personal connections to the lives and stories of these influential figures. You can use this resource for bell work, morning meetings, advisory sessions, individual reflections, literacy stations, or can send virtually to students working remotely. The youngest students can share a discussion about it, while older ones reflect in short essays! It works great for independent reflection or as a guide for group conversations and learning, supporting not only SEL, but also Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
Included in this 50 slide set are:
- 21 AAPI Portraits
- 21 Links to short video biographies
- 21 Links to text articles/bios
- 21 Inspirational Quotes
- 21 Prompts for Individual/Group reflection
As a BONUS you'll also receive an AAPI heritage virtual library and an AAPI virtual museum room, including:
- 13 links to Video Read Aloud books with a focus on AAPI heritage
- 2 Artifact links and 1 link to the FULL Smithsonian Asian American artifact collection
Here's how it works:
Each day students will find one slide with 3 panels showcasing an inspiring figure:
Panel 1: Name and Role/occupation- Link to text bio
Panel 2: Portrait with link to brief video bio
Panel 3: Inspirational Quote from the individual
Next, a second daily slide asks a question of the day that invites reflection related to the day’s quote and builds social-emotional awareness. This question can be answered as a group conversation, through a turn-and-talk, or as a journal prompt. Virtual learners have the option to answer the question by typing responses in the text box, or can use the scribble tool under Insert> Line> Scribble to illustrate their responses. You can add speaker notes to provide students with directions for your preferred method of responding. This panel provides a great opportunity to reflect, share, and differentiate SEL!
