Artist Inspired Lessons for Black History Month (6 Elementary Art Lessons)

Celebrate Black History Month with this collection of elementary art lessons that will keep your kindergarten through 5th grade art students engaged in painting, drawing, collage and more while learning about artists Faith Ringgold, Jacob Lawrence, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Romare Bearden, Lois Mailou Jones and Alma Thomas. These elementary art lesson plans will cover 2-3 weeks of planning. The students will learn some fun facts and be engaged in art critiques of artists work. The PowerPoint slides and/or PDF slides includes artist biography, art critique, art vocabulary (elements of art and principles of design), lesson objectives (I can statements), materials needed, step by step directions, handout for each lesson and a YouTube video art tutorial for each lesson. This package will yield a well rounded, beautiful display to celebrate Black History Month in February. Enjoy!
