What educators are saying

It is a quick and easy tool to use with the students, and it works great for what I am targeting for their goals.
I used this with my older elementary speech students and they loved it! It kept everyone’s interest and had them keeping each other accountable for their best sounds. Great resource!

Description

If you struggle to plan for mixed speech and language groups, try this articulation game for describing words with speech sounds for R, R-blends, Vocalic R, SH, CH, S, Z, and S-blends. With this describing game for speech therapy you can target speech sounds and work on vocabulary goals such as sharing category group, attribute features, answering wh-questions or using in sentences with adjectives.

Don't worry; this Name That Word articulation game is perfect when kids are squirrely, or you don’t have time to plan!

The Name That Word Articulation games can be used during those end-of-the-year speech and language activities when kids struggle to focus.

You won’t feel guilty pulling out a speech therapy game because this one is loaded with speech sound and vocabulary practice!

As an added challenge, you can turn it into a Minute-To-Win-It game and split kids into teams to see who can guess the most words in a minute.

How to Use the Speech and Language Activity Game in Therapy:

  • Do a structured speech or language activity and then play the Name that Word game as the reinforcer sneaking in extra natural practice.
  • Play the game throughout the session, but stop each round from having students practice their speech sounds or describe some of the named words.
  • Take data while playing the game to see how students correctly produce their speech sounds during spontaneous communication.
  • Have students describe the words with their speech sounds and then play minute to win it games to see who can guess the most words from clues
  • Use the cards to work on beginning inferences by giving one clue, and students guess the word (Each card has four words)
  • Adapt for naming more words in a category or answering noun-function questions
  • Give points for building sentences with pictures that include an adjective
  • Before playing the game, review how to handle problems when working with a team, how to congratulate a winner, and how to handle a loss
