Description

Learning how to draw and shade a mouth is fun and engaging in this easy to prep art resource. Drawing and shading facial features takes on a new approach with this set of 24 pencil drawing art task cards - 48 cards total (24 with a grid and 24 without a grid).Perfect art activity for multi-level classes. Students choose their mouth task card and their drawing technique.

Perfect for middle school art, high school art and homeschool art. Your art students will gain confidence as they build their portrait drawing techniques.

Drawing Cards offer a multicultural selection of mouth references, with directions right on the cards AND on the worksheets - perfect for art sub plans, homebound art instruction, or an early finisher art activity

I am always in search of new and interesting ways to give kids confidence as they develop their drawing skills. I am also a firm believer in teaching on a scaffold, working slowly, and building confidence along the journey to set students up for success.

Portraiture is particularly challenging - both to teach and to learn - and lots of practice is necessary for optimal results and success for everyone.
In this case, students should have knowledge on how to draw and shade an object prior to attempting these task cards.

For best results, I recommend this prerequisite drawing unit:

Beginner Drawing and Shading Lessons

These Task Cards make a nice addition to my comprehensive Portrait Drawing Unit for Beginners, which can also be found here:

Bonus Classroom Management Tip:

For some good old fashioned cell phone management, purchase a cheap over the door shoe holder with 24 slots (9 bucks on Amazon) - print cards and place in slots. Students simply deposit the phone, take their card from the slot - and complete the drawing either in their sketchbook or on the worksheet provided.

Teacher Prep: Are you ready for this?”

Print. (Print 2-sided to offer student choice - grid vs. no grid)
Laminate. (If your students are allowed to laminate, have the kids do this)
Cut out. (I always have the kids do this part, then it’s even less prep)
Print Worksheets - two versions, 4-part and no grid - there are two choices, one with an artist reflection and one with a rubric (no more, "I lost my rubric!")
Note: There are also separate rubric and reflection sheets for a sketchbook option
Print Value Scales (have students cut out)
Upload Student Video Tutorials to your online teaching platform (to be seen only by students - please do not upload to a district teacher web page viewable to the public - see TOU for details)
