Description

I created this slideshow/movie/presentation/pdf file to introduce and define arrays to my 2-3rd grade students. There are 52 slides/pages that takes students from guessing the amounts they see by piles, then groups, and the rows. I use real photos of toys, buttons, coins, candy to show different arrays. I also challenge my learners by asking them to come up with all the possible arrays for 16 toy cars.

How can I use this product?
I have showed this to my whole class and then followed it up with a small group activity where I put items on each table and had my learners create as many arrays as they can.

What is included?
1 Quicktime movie with 52 slides that you can click through
or 1 pdf file with 52 pages that you can scroll through each page

Is this available in a bundle?

What standards are addressed?
Common Core Standards
CCSS.Math.Content.3.MD.C.6 Measure areas by counting unit squares (square cm, square m, square in, square ft, and improvised units).
CCSS.Math.Content.3.MD.C.7 Relate area to the operations of multiplication and addition.
CCSS.Math.Content.4.NBT.B.5 Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number, and multiply two two-digit numbers, using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, multiplication, rectangular arrays arrays, and/or area models.
CCSS.Math.Content.4.MD.A.3 Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
CCSS.Math.Content.5.NBT.B.5 Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm - multiplication.
