Description

Arithmetic & Recursive Sequences Escape Room

Do your students need more practice with arithmetic and recursive sequences? In this resource you will find 12 questions on a mixture of identifying the common difference, writing explicit formulas, evaluating for a term, and using a recursive formula. Students will be required to use the explicit, correctly identify the common difference and understand how to apply that formula to find other terms. Students will practice with subscript notation. They will need to recognize and that finding the 73rd term is the same as finding a₇₃.

The last 3 problems have students practice using recursive formulas. Students will need to know that recursive formulas require the first term accompanied by the formula. Students will use their knowledge that aₙ-₁ represents the previous term.

This is an escape room, so as you get a question correct instructions will appear to help crack the code.

Cells will turn GREEN as well to indicate a correct answer. There is a fun CRACK THE CODE at the end of the escape room to show mastery of the topic! In order to crack the code, students will need to know how to cube root a number.

This SELF-CHECKING activity will work for both Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel!

Recognize that sequences are functions, sometimes defined recursively, whose domain is a subset of the integers. For example, the Fibonacci sequence is defined recursively by 𝘧(0) = 𝘧(1) = 1, 𝘧(𝘯+1) = 𝘧(𝘯) + 𝘧(𝘯-1) for 𝘯 greater than or equal to 1.
Determine an explicit expression, a recursive process, or steps for calculation from a context.
Write arithmetic and geometric sequences both recursively and with an explicit formula, use them to model situations, and translate between the two forms.
