Description

Serious grading HACK for ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY WRITING!

Slash your grading time and effort to a fraction while giving better feedback. After grading thousands of essays, I decided to compile a list of codes for the most common errors so that I could STOP writing the same feedback repeatedly.

This system includes

DETAILED, SPECIFIC and ACTIONABLE FEEDBACK for:

  • Hooks
  • Background Information
  • Thesis Statement
  • Counterargument
  • Topic Sentences
  • Evidence
  • Elaboration
  • Conclusion

Here's how it works:

  • Assign argument writing activity
  • Give students the rubric in advance so they know the elements
  • Print and cut out rubric cards placing them on a ring (optional)

OR

  • Print enough copies to suit your purposes: stations, pairs, set for each student, etc.
  • Students evaluate their peers' work giving appropriate codes on the rubric.
  • Students use the codes they receive to revise their work.
  • Teacher also uses feedback codes when grading final essays.

Why are these cards amazing?

  • NO MORE WRITING THE SAME FEEDBACK OVER AND OVER!
  • Students learn the language of argument really quickly
  • Students have definitive expectations rather than a vague understanding of how they get points
  • Common Core aligned
  • You will absolutely see improved writing from your students

Here is what you will get:

  • High quality feedback cards coded for each rubric element.
  • Code sheets for quickly finding feedback.
  • Brick-themed rubrics
  • Link for shareable version for Google Classroom
  • Free customer service!
