What educators are saying

This resource was has been a fun review of area of parallelograms for my students as we enter our test prep season.
This was a really enjoyable resource that helped solidify the concept of finding the area of different polygons! I would recommend using the "easier" version. It's the exact same questions, but just does a better job of explaining the directions in my opinion.

Description

Can your 6th graders find the area triangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, and composite shapes to escape the pizza shop? This sixth grade geometry activity is packed with challenging area word problems and challenges, and encourages active learning and collaboration. Polly's World Famous Polygon Pizza has five puzzles for your students to solve to show their geometry skills! This engaging escape room can be completed digitally by accessing a Google Form, or by using a printed version. Put your students' knowledge of finding the area of triangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, and composite shapes to the test with five unique puzzle challenges. Problem solving skills and cooperation will come in to play as students work on these geometric pizza puzzles!

The digital escape room offers two options. Both options include the same puzzles, however option B breaks each puzzle down into steps and offers additional hints to allow for differentiation.

FAQ

  • Do students need to have Gmail™ accounts? NO! Anyone with internet access and a tablet, computer, or even phone can complete the breakout.
  • How long will this take? That is the hardest question as the answer varies depending on each classroom, student, or group. Some students with a firm grasp on the concepts covered in this escape room will be able to complete the challenge relatively quickly (30 minutes), others will take 45-60 minutes or more. The form will not save student data, so if you are worried about your students not finishing on time, simply have them write their answers on scratch paper. They can then come back and quickly re-enter their answers and pick up where they left off.
  • Will students have to search the web to figure out the puzzles? NO! All of the information needed will be provided in the Google Form™. The math in this activity is all standards-based.
